Job Description

Description:

JANSON, named to the Inc. 5000 (2026) as one of the fastest-growing privately held businesses, is recognized for delivering excellent service to the military customers we support both domestically and abroad.

At JANSON, design is not decoration—it is mission enablement. The environments we create help military personnel train more effectively, collaborate more efficiently, build stronger communities, and feel valued for their service. Every project is an opportunity to improve the daily experience of those who support and defend our nation.

As JANSON expands nationally and internationally, this role will help shape how military modernization, workplace transformation, and immersive environments get built—not just imagined—working alongside a team that believes creativity can drive meaningful impact.

JANSON's work is primarily with and for US military customers.

Position Summary

The Senior Exhibit & Industrial Designer is the team’s authority on how design intent becomes a physical object. The role takes approved concepts for military headquarters, command facilities, dining facilities, training environments, heritage and recognition displays, and trade-show presence, and resolves them into custom architectural features, millwork, exhibits, displays, dimensional graphics, furniture, and wayfinding that can be fabricated, shipped, installed, and maintained on a military installation.

This is a maker’s role at a senior level. It requires a designer who thinks in materials, joinery, tolerances, and sequences; who can detail for a cabinet shop, a metal fabricator, a sign shop, and a general contractor; and who can hold the creative intent of a concept through value engineering and field conditions. The role works closely with the Senior Experience Designer on the concept side, with the Production Coordinator on procurement and logistics, and with JANSON’s Atlanta shop and fabrication partners on execution.

Key Responsibilities

Design Development and Detailing

•  Translate approved concepts into developed designs for custom architectural features, exhibits, displays, heritage walls, recognition and donor elements, millwork, furniture, and wayfinding systems.

•  Produce fabrication-ready control drawings, shop-drawing-level details, material and finish callouts, and specifications that fabricators and general contractors can price and build from.

•  Select materials, hardware, lighting, and finishes appropriate to military-facility durability, maintenance, fire and life-safety, and accessibility requirements.

Fabrication and Field Execution

•  Serve as the design lead for fabrication partners and the in-house Atlanta shop: review shop drawings and submittals, approve samples and mock-ups, and resolve detailing questions.

•  Lead constructability and value-engineering reviews; propose alternatives that protect intent while meeting budget and schedule.

•  Support installation on site, including site surveys, field measurement, punch lists, and as-built documentation during the Sustain phase.

Exhibit and Trade-Show Design

•  Design exhibits, interpretive displays, and trade-show environments (e.g., defense industry conferences), including structure, graphics integration, lighting, and shipping and setup logistics.

•  Coordinate with graphic designers on dimensional and applied graphics so that graphic and physical design are resolved together.

Practice and Mentoring

•  Establish detailing standards, material libraries, and fabrication documentation templates for the team.

•  Mentor the Experience Designer and Junior Experience Designer on detailing, materials, and fabrication methods; review their technical work.

•  Contribute fabrication cost and schedule estimates to proposals and scoping.

Requirements:

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

•  Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Exhibit Design, Architecture, Interior Architecture, or a related discipline.

•  8+ years of professional experience in exhibit, industrial, experiential, or environmental design, with a substantial portfolio of fabricated and installed work.

•  Demonstrated ability to produce fabrication-ready documentation and to work directly with cabinet shops, metal and acrylic fabricators, sign shops, and general contractors.

•  Advanced proficiency in SOLIDWORKS, Rhino, or Fusion 360, plus SketchUp or Revit, and AutoCAD; working proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud.

•  Working knowledge of materials, finishes, hardware, lighting integration, and relevant codes and standards (ADA, fire and life-safety, UFC where applicable).

•  Experience managing fabrication vendors, submittals, and shop-drawing review.

•  Ability to travel to installations and customer sites (approximately 20–30%), including site surveys and installation oversight.

•  US citizenship required, with the ability to obtain and maintain access to US military installations; work supports Department of Defense contracts.

Preferred Qualifications

•  Experience with museum, heritage, or interpretive exhibits, or with military heritage and recognition displays.

•  Trade-show and event environment design experience (structures, modular systems, shipping and setup).

•  Hands-on shop experience (woodworking, metal, CNC, 3D printing) and comfort working alongside fabricators.

•  Experience with federal or DoD customers and installation access processes.

Growth Path

This role sits on the senior rung of the Experience Design technical track. Sustained performance establishes the basis for advancement to Principal Exhibit & Industrial Designer, with team-wide ownership of fabrication standards and the shop relationship, or into design leadership as the Facilities & Experience business grows.
