SUMMARY

Works on heavy civil construction projects, specifically with Large Diameter Pipe (30” – 40”). Responsible for assembling, connecting, and constructing pipe systems for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains. Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems, pipe supports, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial production and processing systems by performing the following duties.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities of the Pipelayer position include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

• Select type and size of pipe, and related materials and equipment, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications.
• Inspect work site to determine presence of obstructions; ascertain that holes cut for pipe will not cause structural weakness.
• Plan installation or repair to avoid obstructions and avoid interfering with activities of other workers.
• Lay pipe for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains.
• Connect pipes using threaded, caulked, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints; cut, thread, and bend pipe; secure pipes to structure with brackets, clamps, and hangers.
• Configure pipe routes; align pipes in pipeline sections; dig trenches with trenching tools; slide pipe into trenches; insert spaces in between pipes.; pull out defective or misaligned pipes.
• Perform continual maintenance on pipes and replace those needing repair; operate machinery to verify repair.

REQUIREMENTS

• Experience installing deep gravity sewer up to 20ft in depth
• Ability to read and understand technical procedures, operating and maintenance instructions, safety rules, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively communicate with supervisors and fellow employees by interpreting instructions given in verbal, written, diagram, or schedule form.
• Willingness to follow safety guidelines at all times.
• One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to stand, walk, climb, or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; speak and hear; regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Vision abilities including close distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
